Glendale residential duplex patio and lawn
This was a budgeted redo of rental duplex backyard. For this project, I oversaw the full project to include design, demolition of the existing landscape, irrigation adjustments, re-grading, hardscape install, lawn install, and advised on furnishings.

For this project the client wanted a new lawn and patio installed on a very small budget. I designed a 100 ft² framed, concrete-paver patio with contrasting black-pebbled 2” joints. A 600 square foot sodded lawn of Medallion Plus was added at jobs end.
I managed the project and oversaw the demo of all existing spaces back to a clean slate of typical compacted LA clay soil. The existing soil was graded for the best drainage towards the naturally occurring south-moving slope of the overall landscape. A landscape fabric barrier, 50/50 aggregate base, and sand topper was layered prior to hand-laying the 24” concrete paver patio space. The 2” joints between the concrete pavers were back-filled with a semi-gloss black stone pebble making for a minimalist, clean aesthetic with high contrast.
The existing irrigation system was adjusted to accommodate the patio construction as well as in anticipation of the new lawn space. Sod was laid with elegant arcs, curves and contours to enhance the view from all vantages of the residences as well as the patio. Finally, I worked with the client to advise on choices for the modern and comfortable furnishings.
